PERMANENT RESETTLEMENT PROGRAMME

Alongside the Action Programme for the Urban Rehabilitation of Morro da Sé_CH.1, an Resettlement Programme is being carried out with the funding of the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation / European Investment Bank, and meant for renting with social purposes.

It is not just about creating housing units for the local families, who have to leave their homes and vacate buildings in poor conditions, in order for the buildings to be renovated for equipments or even to be renovated under the Resettlement Programme. It is also about creating housing units to bring more families to Morro da Sé, some of which left due to the lack of conditions and bring others that may want to reside where Porto was born as a structured and walled city at about 2,500 years.

The Programme intervenes in 29 buildings, some of them in accordance with the urban consolidation criteria, and generates 14 projects to be renovated through 9 construction contracts. This programme will allow the creation of 71 housing units – 11 studios, 29 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom and 6 three-bedroom apartments – and 19 shopping spaces, reaching 8,000 m2 of the gross building area, about 15% of the total workable gross building area (public and private) of Morro da Sé.
